Canada Holds First Express Entry Draw of August – 225 Invited

Canada’s immigration department, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), held its first Express Entry draw for August 2025. In this draw, 225 people who were nominated by a province (PNP applicants) were invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada.

To receive an invitation, candidates needed a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 739. This is 49 points lower than the previous PNP draw in July, showing that the cut-off score has decreased.

So far in 2025, 49,628 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) have been sent out through the Express Entry system. Most of these have gone to Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) candidates. Others were given to people in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), those who speak French, and candidates working in priority jobs.

This draw shows Canada’s continued focus on bringing in skilled workers through provincial nominations. The lower CRS score also suggests that immigration rules and preferences are changing based on the types of candidates Canada needs.
