Canada to Increase Passport Fees from March 31, 2026

The Canadian government has announced that fees for passports and other travel documents will increase starting March 31, 2026. The increase is being made to match inflation and the rising cost of producing secure travel documents.

According to the new changes, the fee for an adult 10-year passport in Canada will increase from $160 to $163.50. The 5-year adult passport will rise from $120 to $122.50, while the 5-year passport for children will increase from $57 to $58.50.

For people applying from outside Canada, the fees will also go up. The 10-year adult passport will increase from $260 to $266.25, the 5-year adult passport from $190 to $194.25, and the child passport from $100 to $102.50.

Other travel documents will also become slightly more expensive. The refugee travel document will rise from $120 to $122.50, while the certificate of identity will increase from $260 to $266.25.

Some service fees will see a bigger increase. The urgent processing fee will rise from $110 to $125.75, and the weekend or holiday processing fee will increase from $335 to $383.50.

The government said these adjustments follow the Service Fees Act, which allows certain federal fees to be updated each year based on inflation.

In addition to the fee changes, Canada will introduce a passport service guarantee starting April 1, 2026. Under this policy, complete passport applications will be processed within 30 business days. If the service standard is not met, the processing fee will be automatically refunded.

This new guarantee expands on a passport service improvement plan that was first announced in March 2025.
