Environment Canada is warning that most parts of the country, especially Ontario and eastern Canada, will likely face a hotter-than-usual summer this year. This is primarily due to climate change, which has already made Canada 1.8°C warmer on average since 1948.

The likelihood of above-normal temperatures in the eastern regions is nearly 100%, with heatwaves and prolonged periods of hot weather anticipated. However, not all areas will be hotter. Coastal parts of British Columbia and the Northwest Territories may have cooler-than-usual weather.

Western Canada is also expected to see more wildfire risks, especially in August, due to dry and hot conditions. Atlantic Canada could feel stickier than usual, with higher humidity. Rainfall levels are still uncertain in many places.

Even though some cooler days might happen, the overall trend points to a warmer summer across most of the country. Experts say this is part of a larger pattern, where climate change is making extreme weather, such as heatwaves, more common and intense.
