12-Year-Old Charged After Stabbing His Brother in Lethbridge

A shocking incident in Lethbridge, Alberta, has left a community in disbelief after a 12-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing his seven-year-old brother.

The attack happened on August 24 around 4:30 p.m. at a home in north Lethbridge. Emergency crews found the younger boy critically injured. He was first taken to Chinook Regional Hospital and then airlifted to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton for advanced care.

At first, the older brother told police that an unknown intruder had broken into their house and stabbed his sibling. But investigators later determined the story was false. Evidence at the scene, including a knife, showed that the 12-year-old had stabbed his brother multiple times, believed he had killed him, and then lied about an intruder.

Because both the accused and the victim are minors, authorities are limited in what details they can share. The 12-year-old is currently in custody and is awaiting a bail hearing, while investigators continue to gather evidence to understand exactly what happened.
