Soaked and Stormy: Heavy Rain, Strong Winds to Hit B.C.’s South Coast Friday

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver, the lower Sunshine Coast, and Howe Sound. A strong weather system, carrying an unusually high amount of moisture for this time of year, is expected to move across British Columbia’s south coast on Friday. The system will bring heavy rain and strong winds, with conditions worsening as the day progresses.

Rainfall totals could reach up to 80 millimetres in higher elevations, raising concerns about rising water levels in rivers and creeks. High streamflow advisories have been issued in several regions, and residents are urged to stay cautious near waterways.

The rain is forecast to ease later Friday night on the Sunshine Coast and after midnight in eastern parts of Metro Vancouver. However, during the heaviest downpours on Friday afternoon, visibility could be significantly reduced.

Pooling water on roads may also increase the risk of hydroplaning and create hazardous driving conditions. Motorists are advised to slow down, allow extra travel time, and be prepared for sudden changes in weather and road conditions.
