Bomb Threats on German-Bound Flights Force Emergency Response in Calgary

Three international flights bound for Germany were forced to land in Calgary after bomb threats were reported onboard. Canadian CF-18 fighter jets and an American F-15 were quickly scrambled under NORAD’s command to escort the planes safely.

All three flights landed without incident, and after thorough checks, authorities confirmed the threats were not credible.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has taken charge of the investigation. Officials stress that making bomb threats against aircraft is a serious criminal offense under Canada’s Criminal Code.

Security experts say these kinds of threats highlight the importance of NORAD’s bi-national system, which allows Canada and the U.S. to respond together without delay. The system, created in 1957 during the Cold War, ensures fighter jets from either country can act immediately when passenger safety is at risk.

Investigators may need to work with international partners to track down whoever is behind the threats, especially if the suspects are outside Canada.
