Millions of Aboveground Pools Recalled After Child Drowning Incidents

More than 5.2 million above-ground swimming pools sold in the U.S. and Canada are being recalled due to safety concerns. The problem arises from compression straps on the outside of the pools, which can act like steps, allowing small children to climb in and reach the water without supervision.

Since 2007, nine children aged 22 months to 3 years have tragically drowned in these pools.

The pools were made by popular brands like Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup, and have been sold since 2002 through major retailers like Walmart, Target, Lowe’s, Costco, and Amazon.

Safety officials are urging families to drain the pools or get free repair kits from the manufacturers before using them again. They also stress the importance of supervising children near any water to prevent more accidents.
