Toronto Sees Record Warm Temperature as Heavy Rain Raises Flood Concerns

Toronto recorded its warmest temperature ever for this date as unusually mild weather spread across parts of Toronto and southern Ontario. The temperature reached 17.4°C, breaking the previous record of 16.7°C set in 2012.

According to Environment Canada, the region is also expected to receive 15–40 mm of rainfall, with some areas possibly getting even more during thunderstorms.

The warm weather is causing snow to melt quickly, which may increase water levels in rivers and streams. Because the ground is still frozen, it may not absorb much water, increasing the risk of surface runoff and flooding, especially in low-lying areas.

Weather officials also warned that dense fog could reduce visibility, particularly in areas northwest of Toronto, making driving conditions dangerous.

Authorities are advising residents to stay updated with weather forecasts, avoid flooded roads, and check flood information from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and local conservation authorities.

The mild weather is expected to continue until mid-week, though conditions may change with mixed precipitation and periods of sunshine.
