Three Earthquakes Shake Yukon–Alaska Border Area, No Damage Reported

Canada recorded three moderate earthquakes near the Yukon–Alaska border late on December 31, 2025. The tremors happened within a few minutes of each other close to Haines Junction in Yukon.

The strongest earthquake measured 5.7 in magnitude and struck about 140 kilometres west of Haines Junction. Two more earthquakes followed shortly after, measuring 5.0 and 5.3.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the first tremor was felt in Whitehorse, but no damage or injuries were reported. Officials also said there is no risk of damage from these earthquakes.

Earlier this month, on December 6, a stronger 7.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded near the Alaska–Yukon border. However, the recent earthquakes did not cause any impact in nearby communities, including Whitehorse.

Authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in the region.
