Canada’s $6 Billion Plan to Create 100,000 Skilled Trades Jobs!

Mark Carney has announced a major new plan called “Team Canada Strong” to boost the country’s workforce and economy.

The Canadian government will spend $6 billion over the next five years to recruit, train, and hire 80,000 to 100,000 skilled trades workers. These workers will support important sectors like housing, transport, and defence projects.

The plan focuses especially on helping young people start careers in trades. Around $2 billion will be used to create paid job placements that lead directly to apprenticeships. Through the Build Canada Apprenticeship Service, employers can get up to $10,000 to support a new apprentice’s first-year salary.

To encourage more people to complete their training, the government is offering a $5,000 bonus after earning a Red Seal certification. Apprentices will also receive a weekly allowance of $400 during classroom training, which can go up to $16,000 in total support.

The program will also modernize training systems. About $331 million will be invested to digitize the Red Seal Program, including online exams and digital logbooks. This is expected to cut certification time by half.

In addition, the Canadian Armed Forces will receive $250 million to expand trades training through special programs.

The government says Canada will need more than 1.4 million skilled workers by 2033 to meet growing demands in construction, infrastructure, and energy.

The initiative will work closely with Indigenous communities, unions, businesses, and provincial governments to ensure more people can join the skilled trades sector.
