ഞായറാഴ്ച രാത്രി വൈകി ലാഗ്വാർഡിയ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ ഒരു ദാരുണമായ അപകടം സംഭവിച്ചു. എയർ കാനഡ വിമാനം റൺവേയിൽ വെച്ച് ഒരു ഫയർ ട്രക്കുമായി കൂട്ടിയിടിച്ചു.

മോൺട്രിയൽ-ട്രൂഡോ അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിമാനത്താവളത്തിൽ നിന്ന് എത്തിയ വിമാനം ലാൻഡിംഗിന് ശേഷം ഗേറ്റിലേക്ക് നീങ്ങുമ്പോൾ രാത്രി 11:40 ഓടെയാണ് അപകടം നടന്നത്.

റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ പ്രകാരം, ജാസ് ഏവിയേഷൻ പ്രവർത്തിപ്പിക്കുന്ന വിമാനം ടാക്സി ചെയ്യുന്നതിനിടെ ഒരു അഗ്നിശമന ട്രക്കിൽ ഇടിച്ചു. ദുഃഖകരമെന്നു പറയട്ടെ, പൈലറ്റും സഹപൈലറ്റും അപകടത്തിൽ മരിച്ചു.

തുറമുഖ അതോറിറ്റിയിലെ നാല് അഗ്നിശമന സേനാംഗങ്ങൾക്കും പരിക്കേറ്റു, അവരിൽ ചിലർക്ക് ഗുരുതരമായി പരിക്കേറ്റു. സംഭവസമയത്ത് വിമാനത്തിൽ ഏകദേശം 100 യാത്രക്കാർ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

കനത്ത മഴയും മോശം ദൃശ്യപരതയും അപകടത്തിന് കാരണമായേക്കാമെന്ന് പ്രാഥമിക റിപ്പോർട്ടുകൾ സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. അപകടത്തിന് മുമ്പ് തന്നെ മോശം കാലാവസ്ഥയെക്കുറിച്ച് വിമാനത്താവള അധികൃതർ മുന്നറിയിപ്പ് നൽകിയിരുന്നു.

സംഭവത്തെത്തുടർന്ന്, വിമാനത്താവളം പൂർണ്ണമായും അടച്ചിടാൻ ഫെഡറൽ ഏവിയേഷൻ അഡ്മിനിസ്ട്രേഷൻ ഉത്തരവിട്ടു.

അപകടത്തിന്റെ കൃത്യമായ കാരണം കണ്ടെത്താൻ എയർ കാനഡയും വിമാനത്താവള ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥരും അന്വേഷണം ആരംഭിച്ചു.

Air Canada Plane Hits Fire Truck at New York Airport; 2 Dead

A tragic accident occurred at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night when an Air Canada flight collided with a fire truck on the runway.

The flight had arrived from Montréal–Trudeau International Airport and was moving toward the gate after landing when the accident happened around 11:40 p.m.

According to reports, the aircraft, operated by Jazz Aviation, hit a fire truck during taxiing. Sadly, the pilot and co-pilot lost their lives in the crash.

Four fire service personnel from the Port Authority were also injured, some of them seriously. Around 100 passengers were on board the flight at the time of the incident.

Initial reports suggest that heavy rain and poor visibility may have contributed to the accident. Airport authorities had already warned about bad weather conditions before the crash.

Following the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a complete shutdown of the airport.

Both Air Canada and airport officials have started investigations to find out the exact cause of the accident.
