Air Canada Captain Flew for 17 Years with Fake Licence

A former Air Canada pilot is facing serious criminal charges after allegedly flying commercial aircraft for 17 years using forged credentials.

According to Canadian authorities, 59-year-old Geoffrey Wall is accused of working as an Air Canada captain without holding the required Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL), the highest certification needed for commercial airline pilots. Investigators say he used false documents after being promoted to captain in 2009.

The alleged fraud came to light during a routine licence evaluation in 2023 when officials noticed inconsistencies in his records. Following an internal investigation, Air Canada immediately removed Wall from duty and reported the matter to Transport Canada.

Authorities estimate that Wall operated around 900 domestic and international flights during his career and earned millions of dollars in salary while allegedly using forged credentials.

Despite the allegations, Air Canada said passenger safety was never compromised. The airline noted that all pilots are required to complete mandatory training and competency checks every six months.

Wall has been charged with seven offences, including fraud, forgery, and possession of counterfeit documents. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 29.

Police officials said cases of long-term fraud can be difficult to detect because individuals involved may become highly skilled at deception. Air Canada has since completed an audit of its pilot records and reported no other cases of licence irregularities.
