Canada is experiencing very different weather conditions this May long weekend, with some regions seeing winter-like snow while others enjoy almost summer temperatures.

In western Canada, higher areas of Alberta and the Rocky Mountains could receive 20–30 cm of snow, bringing unusually cold weather for May. A wildfire near Sundre, Alberta, has also expanded to more than 1,000 hectares, leading officials to issue emergency alerts and advise people to avoid the area.

The Prairies are facing strong winds, with parts of Saskatchewan and Manitoba recording gusts as high as 119 km/h. Dust and poor visibility are causing travel concerns and affecting the farming season. Some areas, including Saskatoon and Prince Albert, may even see up to 10 cm of snow.

Meanwhile, eastern Canada is enjoying much warmer conditions. Areas across Ontario and Quebec, including the Greater Toronto Area, Ottawa, and Montreal, are expected to see temperatures rise into the high 20s, with some places possibly touching 30°C on Monday.

The Maritimes are also expected to enjoy pleasant weather, with sunny skies and temperatures in the high teens to low 20s through much of the weekend.
