The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) in Quebec is warning the public about multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes that are being promoted as a quick path to “financial freedom.”

Officials caution that many of these schemes look like pyramid schemes, where people are pushed to recruit others instead of making real investments. This creates a high risk of collapse, leaving participants with heavy financial losses.

The AMF says several promoters and groups behind these MLM offers are not registered with the regulator. It reminds people to always verify whether a company or individual is AMF-approved before investing.

The regulator also advises the public to be skeptical of any promise of guaranteed profits or “zero risk,” stressing that such claims are usually misleading.

This warning aims to protect Quebec residents from unregistered and deceptive financial practices.
