Canada’s Security Chief in India: Fresh Start for Bilateral Ties

Canada’s National Security Advisor Nathalie Drouin recently visited India to strengthen cooperation on terrorism, cross-border crimes, and other key issues. Her meetings with Indian officials, including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, focused on building trust and restarting high-level engagement between the two countries.

Both sides agreed to respect each other’s sovereignty and work together on security, trade, energy, defense, and other vital areas. India also stressed the importance of Canada’s clarity on its ‘One India’ position, highlighting respect for India’s territorial integrity.

The visit marks a fresh effort to rebuild ties, coming after discussions at the G7 summit in Kananskis and a follow-up meeting between Drouin and Doval on September 18.

Key areas of cooperation include commerce, civil nuclear energy, space, minerals, science and technology, and agriculture. People-to-people exchanges and better consular services were also highlighted to make relations smoother.

This renewed engagement signals a joint approach by India and Canada to tackle common challenges and open a new chapter of collaboration based on democratic values and the rule of law.
