മെയ് 23 ന് ഹാർവാർഡ് സർവകലാശാല അന്താരാഷ്ട്ര വിദ്യാർത്ഥികളെ ചേർക്കുന്നത് തടയാൻ ലക്ഷ്യമിട്ടുള്ള ട്രംപ് ഭരണകൂടത്തിന്റെ വിലക്ക് ജില്ലാ ജഡ്ജി അലിസൺ ബറോസ് തടഞ്ഞു.

Harvard vs. Trump: Judge Blocks Shock Ban That Could Have Deported 7,000 International Students!

The District Judge Allison Burroughs blocked the Trump administration’s ban that aimed to prevent Harvard University from enrolling international students on May 23.

The judge made the ruling shortly after Harvard initiated a lawsuit contesting the government’s decision. Harvard characterized the attempt to revoke its certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program as a blatant act of retaliation for the university’s refusal to adhere to politically motivated demands from the government.

The proposed ban would strip Harvard of its capacity to admit international students, compelling them to either move to a different institution or jeopardise their legal status in the country. At present, Harvard hosts nearly 7,000 international students from more than 140 nations, including approximately 788 students from India.

The Trump administration argued that enrolling foreign students is a privilege, not a right, and revoked Harvard’s privilege for not complying with new policies. They claimed Harvard failed to provide student disciplinary records, but the university countered that it did submit the requested information.

International students are understandably feeling anxious about this situation. Many have invested years of hard work to gain admission to a prestigious institution like Harvard, and now they are confronted with uncertainty regarding their visas and the potential need to transfer to another school. This ban poses a significant setback for the aspirations of thousands of international students. Additionally, it could affect their work rights if they are forced to transfer while on Optional Practical Training (OPT).

The US continues to be a favored destination for students; however, many are now placing greater importance on the stability of the institutions they choose.
