കുട്ടികളെ ലൈംഗികമായി ചൂഷണം ചെയ്തതിനെതിരെ നടത്തിയ ഒരു പ്രധാന അന്വേഷണത്തിൽ 18 നും 73 നും ഇടയിൽ പ്രായമുള്ള 36 പുരുഷന്മാരെ ഒന്റാറിയോ പ്രൊവിൻഷ്യൽ പോലീസ് (OPP) അറസ്റ്റ് ചെയ്തു. മാർച്ച് 31 മുതൽ ഏപ്രിൽ 11 വരെ രണ്ടാഴ്ച നീണ്ടുനിന്ന ഒരു ഓപ്പറേഷനുശേഷം പുരുഷന്മാർ ആകെ 128 കുറ്റങ്ങൾ നേരിടുന്നു.

അന്വേഷണത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി, ഒമ്പത് യഥാർത്ഥ ഇരകളെ കണ്ടെത്തി. ഈ കുട്ടികൾ ഇപ്പോൾ സുരക്ഷിതരാണെന്നും അവർക്ക് പിന്തുണ ലഭിക്കുന്നുണ്ടെന്നും പോലീസ് പറയുന്നു.

പ്രൊവിൻഷ്യൽ ഇന്റർനെറ്റ് ചൈൽഡ് എക്സ്പ്ലോയിറ്റേഷൻ (ICE) സ്ട്രാറ്റജി വഴി പ്രവിശ്യയിലുടനീളമുള്ള 21 പോലീസ് വകുപ്പുകൾ കേസിൽ ഒരുമിച്ച് പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. മറ്റ് 51 അന്വേഷണങ്ങൾ ഇപ്പോഴും തുടരുകയാണ്.

കുട്ടികൾ ഓൺലൈനിൽ സുരക്ഷിതരല്ലെന്നും വേട്ടക്കാർക്ക് അവരെ എളുപ്പത്തിൽ സമീപിക്കാൻ കഴിയുമെന്നും ഒപിപി ഡിറ്റക്ടീവ് സ്റ്റാഫ് സർജന്റ് ടിം ബ്രൗൺ പറഞ്ഞു. ഇന്റർനെറ്റിൽ എങ്ങനെ സുരക്ഷിതരായിരിക്കാമെന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് മാതാപിതാക്കളോടും രക്ഷിതാക്കളോടും കുട്ടികളോട് സംസാരിക്കാനും അവരുടെ ഓൺലൈൻ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ സൂക്ഷ്മമായി നിരീക്ഷിക്കാനും അദ്ദേഹം അഭ്യർത്ഥിച്ചു.

പോലീസ് പറയുന്നതനുസരിച്ച്, ഓൺലൈൻ കുട്ടികളെ ചൂഷണം ചെയ്യുന്നതും ദുരുപയോഗം ചെയ്യുന്നതും സംബന്ധിച്ച കേസുകളുടെ എണ്ണം സമീപ വർഷങ്ങളിൽ വർദ്ധിച്ചു.

36 Men Charged in Major OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Investigation

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested 36 men, aged between 18 and 73, in a major child sexual exploitation investigation. The men are facing a total of 128 charges after a two-week operation that ran from March 31 to April 11.

Police used undercover tactics to catch the suspects. Officers posed as children in online chat rooms and on social media apps. They waited for people to approach them and then gathered enough evidence to make arrests.

As part of the investigation, nine real victims were found. Police say these children are now safe and are receiving support.

A total of 21 police departments across the province worked together on the case through the Provincial Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Strategy. Another 51 investigations are still ongoing.

OPP Detective Staff Sergeant Tim Brown said that children are not safe online and that predators can reach them easily. He urged parents and guardians to talk to their children about how to stay safe on the internet and to keep a close eye on their online activity.

The number of cases involving online child exploitation and abuse has gone up in recent years, according to police.
